Abstract
Nlany theoretical bases and experimental technics have been developed for the kinematic analysis of sophisticated human movement. The kinematic knowledge obtained is essential in the proper diagnosis. and surgical treatment of joint disese or in the design of prosthetic devices to restore functional usuage of the joint.
Recently such a kinematic knowledge is used on the correct diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint dysfunction but special kinematic considerations in case of the temporomandibular joint have been received.
One persistently controversal aspect relates to whether this joint is lever action or not.
The purpose of this paper is to review the references of the conflicting aspect on lever or link action focused on the stress distributing components of -the temporomandibular joint and is to apply the kinematics clinically in the understanding of the temporomandibular joint dysfuntion.
The obtained results were as fallows.
1. The temporomandibular joint of the mandible is functioned in part as a lever but directly measuring the direction and magnitude of the reaction force around the condyle is seemed to be technically difficult during mastication until now.
2. The direct approach for measuring loads around the condyle will be proposed and th,; analysis of mandibular movement for C e correct diagnosis and treatment of the t nio3romandibular joint dysfunction be acted by the three dimensional methods.
